If you’re wondering where the heck this season of American Horror Story is going but you’re too impatient to just wait for the rest of the episodes to drop, this little tip about the makeup on the show may have just spoiled the whole damn thing. Okay, that’s slightly dramatic…but it has definitely left AHS fans with a big ol’ hint about how 1984 might unfold. (Psst, it has to do with the whole time jump theory.)
Some savvy fans on Reddit discovered that a makeup and special-effects artist who worked on AHS: 1984 shared two screenshots to her Instagram Story announcing that the ninth season of the show has been nominated for Best Prosthetics in a TV Show and Best Period/Character Makeup in a TV Show. As made super obvious by Billie Lourd’s teased hair and neon eyeshadow, the period nomination makes a lot of sense, because the show is set in the 1980s. But if you look closely at the screenshot…you’ll notice that the ’80s isn’t the only decade mentioned.
Uh…do you see what I see? The 1940s? 2019?! This likely means there’s a major throwback and a current-day tie-in waiting for us.
ICYMI, there’s a theory that this season doesn’t actually take place in the year 1984. Some fans think season 9 will pull a Roanoke and reveal that it’s actually been a movie filmed in the present day all along. Others believe there’s a more general time jump coming up. Either way, this would explain the 2019 makeup.
Anyway, I don’t have any personal requests for the ’40s, but if this season really is going to jump all the way up to 2019…I’m going to need Madison Montgomery to make a comeback. That is all.
