The last decade has seen many highs and many lows – and the same is true for fashion.
From bumbags making a comeback to chunky trainers taking the nation by storm, various styles have been brought back and have evolved to dress the nation.
As we settle into 2020 and a new decade, retailer JD Williams polled 1,000 Brits to review fashion’s biggest hits and misses of the 2010s.
Best of the bunch! Leggings were boasted the best fashion trend of the last 10 years in a survey of British shoppers. Pictured, Kate Upton in workout leggings in New York last month
Divisive: Ripped jeans, as seen on Nicole Scherzinger in London in November last year, were the second most popular trend, although they also appeared on the list of the least popular styles. Right, Sam Faiers in a slip dress, the fourth most popular style, in November 2019
Accessories hit: The 90s revival brought with it a return of the choker, which was voted the 10th most popular trend of the 2010s. Pictured, Normani in a choker in Los Angeles last month

Leggings were voted as the best trend of the last ten years, with more than 25 per cent of Brits picking them as the biggest fashion hits.
Boyfriend jeans and blazers, crop tops, cold shoulder tops and slip dresses all made the top 10 list, while chokers and statement necklaces prove shoppers are also paying attention to accessories.
Perhaps surprisingly, ripped jeans were voted the second best trend of the decade – but also appeared at number three on the list of worst trends.
Similarly onesies made the ‘best’ list at number five but the ‘worst’ list at number four – proving that it remains a decidedly divisive look.
A trend too far! Socks with high heels were voted the fifth worst trend of the last 10 years, according to the survey. Pictured, as seen on a Max Mara Model at Milan Fashion Week 2019
Turning our back on these trends: ‘Ugly trainers’, like the ones seen on Anne Marie at a May 2019 concert (left), were voted the sixth worst trend of the decade. Meanwhile boilersuits, as seen right on Alicia Keys in November last year, were voted the seventh worst trend
Leave it for the bedroom! Pyjamas came out of the house and onto the high street in the 2010s but shoppers voted the look (as seen on Kris Jenner in May 2019) the 10th worst of the decade
Less controversially ‘underwear as outerwear’ topped the list of the worst trends, as Brits moved away from the ‘obvious’ sexiness that defined the 2000s.
Despite the trend being favoured by the Kardashian/Jenner clan, perspex shoes came a close second with a quarter of Brits voting it as their biggest fashion fail.
Meanwhile ‘ugly’ trainers might be all the rage with today’s young celebrities but they’ve failed to impress British shoppers who voted them the sixth worst trend of the decade.
Dividing opinion: The onesie appeared at number five on the list of the best trends… and number four on the worst. Pictured, Camilla Cabello at an awards show in December 2018
JD Williams spokesperson Suzi Burns said: ‘It’s been an interesting decade for fashion, the boom of social media over the last 10 years has undoubtedly played a part in helping certain styles take off so widely.
‘It was initially a surprise to see that leggings took the top spot for best trend of the last 10 years, I guess as a nation we prefer comfort over glamour.
‘However, they are due a revival for 2020 – so it might be time to dig them back out of the wardrobe. Pair them with a smart jacket to keep the look stylish.’
