The Minimalist Gold-Framed Manicure You’re About To See Everywhere – Refinery29

For a long time, a gold manicure was something you saved for the holidays: Sparkly gold just feels festive. But with the rise of nail art, the warm metallic tone has proven to be a timeless accent shade that knows no season.

We’ve seen gold used in other minimalist fashions, like the French tip or a foil overlay, but the gold-rimmed iteration we’re currently eyeing might be the chicest yet. We first caught onto the trend when editorial nail artist Betina Goldstein shared a negative-space design of a naked nail with a gilded outline, a fall-ready take on orbit nails that had us completely sold.

Goldstein calls this minimalist look “deep bronze outlines.” She started with a clear base-coat polish for shine, then rimmed the outer oval of each fingernail with the gold shade Sun-day Style by Essie.

Another take on the look comes from nail artist Queenie Nguyen, who opted for a deeper bronze-gold rim. “I wanted my creation to look more like the amber stones,” she says. “Gemstones like quartz were such a big hit this summer, so I wanted to continue that earthy vibe but feature a warmer tone.”
Nguyen tells us she used an amber gel polish from Japanese brand Vetro in 260 on the base of the nail, then applied a razor-thin coat of metallic gel around the edges of the nail to create what she calls her “gold cuff.”
Nail pro Amy Rickaby used a cocktail of The Gel Bottle Inc polish in Glass Yellow and Chocolate to create this warm amber tone, then used foil to add on the gold border.
